How to forge damascus steel: Step by step. AUTINE and bladesmith John Neeman

This is my second "how to" video. At this time I wanted to show a technique for damascus steel forging and knife making. I hope that this video will encourage someone to start forging and carry on old traditions of craftsmanship. Also, I wanted to thank everyone who appreciated my first video. Your kind words helps and motivates me to make more stuff like this in the future. Big thanks to Elvij...

In order to clear up the confusion that is still going on about "John Neeman" and his previous workplace, please read the following information. John Neeman is Jānis Nīmanis who is the bladesmith of AUTINE by John Neeman. He is also the same John Neeman who was in Neeman Tools project. John left the company because he did not agree with the vision of his former partner for the company. John has...

    This knife looks very sharp but I don’t think this is the right way to advertize it with cutting a young tree. Better to have shown it on a dry branch. Remember that trees are essential to create oxygen, to maintain moderate temperatures throughout the year, to be homes to many species, to block erosion and floods, to keep high reserve of CO2 within them. In fact, as trees are only seen in our planet they are more valuable than gold, diamonds, money, and so on. Respect the nature!

      Well people plant there own tress on there own land they can do as they wish with them and in nature they can use them as they wish if needed maybe go say something about the big industrial places destroying thousands of miles of woodland not some outdoor person doing little bushcraft. Is there any way I can custom order an axe like this? Cause yes, I want y’all to still be able to put your makers’ marks on them, but I also wanted to woodburn some runes and religious symbols to make them the main focus on the haft. And if there’s no way I can do that, can I just order an axe head and make the haft myself? Thanks for reading.

    All I’m going to say is this, there’s nothing wrong with buying a very expensive axe. But, if you can sharpen an axe (I bet you that you could with under $50 in equipment), there’s no need to spend 10 times as much. Council tool make great axes if you touch them up a bit. Hults Bruk, hultsafors, and grandfors Bruk make medium to high quality axes for about $200 or less, all of them are fantastic. If you can put in the work, a vintage axe head can be the best axe you have ever used. Old steel is miles better than most steels we have today because of the higher carbon content in it as it aged.

    • @greekveteran2715
      @greekveteran2715 3 года назад

      Does that mean, that all carbon steels, on axes or knives, become better as the time pass? Thanks in advance

      filthy animal it is 10 times worst than this, you won’t cut through 3-4 inches sticks so swiftly, probably need at least a swing more. Is it worth 500 ? Hell no if you’re not a hardcore chopper I guess, if you do this all day you’re saving on probably millions of swings in your career. I have a fiskars too tho, they’re nice, the norden 10.

    I can see why this project could take days to complete, even with a power hammer. Forging the high carbon steel into the middle of the cutting edge is tricky business. Wish I had half the skill of this young man.
